Presentation of the monograph “Materie viventi”

Brera hosts the presentation of the monographic volume “Maria Cristina Carlini. Materie Viventi”, edited by art critic Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico and published following Maria Cristina Carlini’s exhibition at Palazzo Reale.

The event features Chiara Rostagno, Deputy Director of the Pinacoteca di Brera; Domenico Piraina, Director of Culture and of Palazzo Reale; Alessandro Coscia, Coordinator of Exhibitions and Events at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan; Marco Eugenio Di Giandomenico, editor of the monograph; and artist Maria Cristina Carlini.

The event is promoted by Associazione Ethicando and the Fondazione Maria Cristina Carlini ETS, in collaboration with the Pinacoteca di Brera, and is part of SUART 2026 – Sustainable ART, an international event dedicated to the theme of sustainability in art.

The volume provides a comprehensive overview of Maria Cristina Carlini’s artistic career and research, while also exploring the exhibition “Maria Cristina Carlini. Materie viventi”, in which the two monumental sculptures “Bosco” and “Filemone e Bauci” were installed in the Courtyard of Honour and the Garden of Palazzo Reale.

The sculptor’s work engages with the theme of sustainability, understood not merely as the recovery and reuse of materials, but as a broader relationship between art, society, and the environment.

The presentation also represents an opportunity to reflect on the conclusion of a project that brought together contemporary art, research, institutions, and sustainability through a valuable collaboration between the Municipality of Milan, Palazzo Reale, Associazione Ethicando, and the Fondazione Maria Cristina Carlini ETS.

A selection of the artist’s works will also be on display in the Sala Aldo Bassetti during the event, including “Pietà” (stoneware, 70 × 60 × 40 cm, 2010) and “Eva” (steel and wood, 220 × 123 × 70 cm, 2018).
